OR - that's strong. I know you do not like this idea BUT if you went super easy 3-4x week (8min pace) and tempoed down to sixish pace a couple times a week. You would just kill some 5-10ks w that high end aerobic base you have built.
RRR - You make a good point, and I think you are right, even though I do not like 8:00 pace. Going super easy a few times a week would seem to help me for race day, in the 5k and 10k, as you suggest. Others have suggested this, including my wife. In fact, I just told her what you said, and she replied: "You don't run slow--you just run."
I really did feel that aerobic base last night, and I could not believe the strong feeling I had as I ran those miles.
So, I think I will give it a shot (at least try). Do you have any other or more specific suggestions?
Thanks very much and all the best to you...
Before I forget: Interestingly, there is a rare evening 10k coming up about an hour from where I live. It is on Aug. 5th. I ran it once, in 2015 (Aug. 1), and put up a PR there (39:23), even though it was hot and humid. That race has been in the back of my mind lately, and it might be a good building block for a half in Sept. and then my goal race, the Richmond Marathon, in November.
