I often wonder what our weekly mileage was for high school cross country and track back in the 90s. There were no gps watches back then and we never kept log books. We ran 5-6 days a week, always did a mile warm up and cool down and we had intense workouts as I remember-mile trail repeats around 5-530 pace, hill repeats, etc. I don't remember ever running more than 7-8 miles for long runs, and usually 5-6 miles. If I had to guess, maybe we were doing 30 miles a week in season, but I can't be sure. We were above average team, but not stellar, with varsity being in the 16-18 min range. We never had anyone go in the 15s, that was seen as mythic territory although there was always talk of a kid who graduated before us from a neighboring school who did-maybe he was doing the high mileage? There were rumors that he ran too and from school and the like.
