I had a dedicated runner friend who died of pancreatic cancer recently.
She put things into two buckets - that which she could control, and that which she could not.
This bought her an extra 15 months of life, with only the last month being really miserable. She changed the way I look at things, and quite frankly, no matter how challenging or stressful my job or my life (I have a significant job with lots of responsibility), it all doesn't matter. Control what you can control, and move on.
I admire Gabe G.'s attitude here, and by focusing on what she can control, she is doing the same kind of favor for all of us that my friend did for me by making me adopt the same approach towards life, without or without a serious illness.
She may not win here. But I sure as heck hope she does.
