What: Informal but competitive 5K track race in Portland, OR
When: Saturday, July 22, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Fernhill Park track (NE 42nd and Simpson St)
Who/Why: Anyone looking for a chance to push him or herself
Hi there, fellow PNW runners!
So, the Portland-area race calendar looks pretty thin over the next couple of weeks, and there are no events that I can find that seem oriented to the somewhat competitive runner. I'm headed out of town for a pretty heavily programmed vacation at the end of the month, and I was hoping to get one last good effort in before surrendering to the irregularities of vacation training.
With that in mind, I was wondering if there's any interest in getting together on Saturday, July 22, for a track 5K to get after it a little. My goal would be sub-16:10, so anyone else flirting with the 16-minute "barrier" would be especially welcome, though of course anyone looking to push themselves in a competitive but fun venue should consider coming.
This is a totally unaffiliated event--just a fun way to create a race atmosphere to activate our adrenaline and competitive instinct and maybe get some folks down toward summer PRs.
If you're interested, post here. Please include a target time as well so that folks can see if they'll find someone to race with.
If it looks like anyone is coming, I can create an event FB page and we can move the planning there. Thanks so much, and good luck to everyone in your training!
