Sutton was WIAA xc state champ in ‘98. A few seconds behind him was Sal Impeliterri, who got a partial scholarship to attend Ball State. (both battled injuries in track that spring). Look up their running stats, tell who’s running career would you rather have? (Btw, Sal is a great guy, purely based on running stats)
Both Cisewski and Pollard has flashes of greatness in HS, but I would place them in the much improved in college camp.
Finally, in other sports I would agree with the playing against beginner mode in video games, but we are talking about running! We have times to compare athletes and even head to head races in many cases. It’s not averaging 40 ppg in basketball or rushing for 300 yards. If someone runs a 29 minute 10k in DIII, it is only speculative to believe they’d run faster in DI. Also, it’s speculative that’d they be as successful in school. This is Letsrun.com so it is safe to assume running is important to you. Some guys go DI and have great success in school and sport. Some go DI and cannot balance both and may make a choice to focus on one or the other... or drop out. Same applies to DIII kids, maybe a difference in intensity... maybe. Blanket statements, such as calling these guys weak, cancels out your otherwise strong arguments about the thread topic.
Again, not expecting to change your mind, but hoping you’ll try to respect the choices of others. From my time in DIII, I only felt a mutual respect from the runners at academically elite colleges. Do you really think an MIT educated engineer is poopooing the fact that he competes against WIAC schools. Get perspective. Not all successful people are petty.
