Ranking WI collegiate distance programs

Up until now there have been little to no personal attacks on this thread and the treatment of Gessner is getting borderline to that. This thread is about the programs and any posts about the individuals should be constructive and not nonsense that doesn't further the thread.

Now that indoor season is officially over can we get some rankings (with explanations) from informed people of ALL teams going into outdoor season?

Nothing wrong with criticizing runners and coaches, especially if it is true. You think it doesn't happen in college basketball. Watch ESPN,

Its pretty hard for me and many people on this thread to sympathize with a kid who acts the way Finn acts. Yelling at referees at state, running backwards down the homestretch at state qualifying meets, wearing sunglasses on a shaded evening for the 3200, his social media bravado, and yeah he is a pot head drunk too.

That kind of behavior was a little cute at first, but he isn't Matt Centrowitz or Odell Beckham Jr., he's not good enough to act this way. Now that he's racing like crap, it's kind of hard to feel bad for him.

Only one person you listed turned into a great coach. Or are we talking about just in the Wisconsin bubble? And how many freshman can you count that have adjusted well being drunk 6.5 nights a week? You're right - he does have a lot going for him...that's why it's a shame if it's wasted...

Does anyone have any insight into what the recruiting classes on the Wisconsin schools looks like right now?

Marquette is a status reinforcement display of corporate daddy money. That's about it. I cant think of one thing that Marquette offers to undergrads that UWM doesnt for $13k cheaper or more per year.

How about being educated in a Catholic environment.

Say what you will about the national school rankings, nobody will deny that wisco is a good school. However, there are plenty of dim light bulbs on the Wisconsin track team. So don’t make it out to sound like everyone at Wisco is a high achiever. Also, as a side note, I’d love you know your PR’s, I highly doubt you ever broke 17:00 for 5k. Madison is a good school, but to assume that the work load is head and shoulders above the other UW schools is arrogance to the extreme.

I've been at three different Universities, and I can say the most prestigious are most definitely not guaranteed to be the most rigorous.

To assume it is head and shoulders above the rest is actually quite natural. Marquette is a decent community college but with better amenities.

Rankings are great. Cool.

But to assume all the students at Madison are working harder? Bit much.

I didn’t dig deeper but was very surprised. On the East coast, we only heard about Marquette and Wisconsin Madison.

The web page below enumerates incorrectly as it orders the rankings by their "advertised ranking" even though they are in different contexts:

For instance, they arrive at Wisconsin-Madison being ranked #46 nationwide and lower in the Wisconsin rankings than #38 MW regional university Carroll College. Re-read that sentence and look back again at the web page to grasp that.

I feel the results are skewed in other places too. There is no way UW-Superior should be in the same general range as UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire. I thought I read somewhere that UW-Superior nearly closed down and had to do serious budgeting to keep their doors open. I will not try to sell UW-Milwaukee as a premier university but their Business School, Architecture and Engineering & Mathematical Sciences programs are pretty competitive. Not a place to go for liberal arts (sorry!) and expect to be hired for a standard salaried job. Marquette has good nursing, business and law. MSOE has a number of majors with applicability to the real world and I suspect their post graduation hiring rates are quite competitive. The only problem is that the best rising stars out of MSOE end up in Chicago and not back in Milwaukee.

People might retract what they're saying about Marquette soon. A majority of their best runners went on spring break and drank all week. Also not very Catholic if you ask me. They just don't take it seriously and it will show in their performances.
