he took off maintaining position.
he went off slow.
Wayde is truly amazing.
Wow! Van Niekirk made 43.62 look scary easy, but I couldn't believe Makwala led until the last 60-70m, 44.08 for him and 44.02 for Thebe. If Sibanda (44.2 last year) can get back to form Botswana's 4x400 could challenge for a medal.
I'm not sure Makwala even died so bad today; his last 50 might have been a more typical finish for a guy running 44-low. It's just that Van Niekirk can maintain speed at the end like no one else. Pretty sure this was Makwala's fastest non-La Chaux de Fonds (sp?) time.
Botswana could but together a nice 4×400 in London
They got
Thebe SB 44.02 PB 44.02
Makwala SB 44.08 PB 43.72
Sibanda SB 45.05 PB 44.25
Nkobolo SB 45.34 PB 45.10
SB add up to 2:58.49, PBs add up 2:57.09
For comparison the U.S currently got
Kerley SB 43.70 PB 43.70
Roberts SB 44.22 PB 44.22
London SB 44.47 PB 44.47
Merrit SB 44.78 PB 43.65
SBs add up to 2:57.17, PBs to 2:56.04
Should be a good race in London

I F*cking love Botswana as a team. Their athletes are fun and charismatic, I hope they challenge the US like they did last year.
is there a vid of this?
just watched it and had to watch his 300m WR.....here is what i noticed
he basically did 10.26's average as a "stride" in his 300m, besides that i noticed how his feet spend very little time on the ground compared to the other runners. watch it, his feet hit the ground and the contact time is waaaaaay faster than everyone else
what i noticed from his 400 just now....besides scary......is how it looked like the final back stretch of a fast 800, not like the "stride" he was doing in the 300m, but like the surge in an 800....so smooth so effortless. if van really really wanted to he could have the 500m and 600m WRs as well.
if he takes off like he did in Rio % wise as in running faster than his 300m PR.....
rio last year his splits
10.7
9.8 (20.5)
10.5 (31.00)
12.03 (43.03)
so he is faster at 100-300 this year, lets imagine he takes off at worlds final something like this
10.5
9.8 (20.3)
10.5 (30.8)
12.03 (42.83)
or who knows maybe he runs 11 flat last 100 and destroys everyones mind
Ajee Wilson would have won that race...
does anyone have his 100m splits from his 300m WR? and can someone get the splits for this 43.62
found this old interesting piece
says JW perfect 400 with his best splits would be 43.05
interesting that JW used to get out fast as van in the first 200, and what do you know he ran 43.45 and 43.50.....if you want to run a 43 you cant go out in 21.2 unless you are EPO maxed out juiced to the gills MJ lol
wariner did'nt have the speed peptide.................
track is one dirty drug riddled dope fest ,
if not the jamicans it is now the south africans
can add in botswana too now.
IGF-1 lr3 is the best ped to ever hit sport
south african sprinting would be nothing without it regardless of other dope
and see what doing for two guys from botswana similarly
throw in freedom to dope and have wayde
Wada and iaaf have you thinking does not exsist
with all their fake fancy bears rubbish and attack the russians etc misdirection.
a joke ................................................
you mentioned wariner , and doped to gills but besides him
and meritt and kikaya ,there was a
period from 2004 -2008 when anything under 44.50 was extremely fast.
now that speed peptide in 400m big time very different event
and the well connected few have nike's speed endurance ped too.

Same here regarding Botswana. Also a fan Uganda.

How did True only run 13:28 a week after 7:35 3k in Paris?
In other news Kenyan Trials winner Rutto was dead-last (among finishers) in the 5K, 13:48. Too bad Ndiku can't stay healthy, since he seems to be the only good 5K guy they have anymore.
That was something of a weird race. 7:52 at 3K with only 4 guys left (plus the rabbit) and 2 Ethiopians just a bit back, maybe 3-4 seconds. Those 2 would fall all the way down to 13:26 and 13:34 I think. Then Alamirew loses about 11 seconds to the top 2 over the last 600.
Not sure why no one else could even hang through 3K, since it wasn't exactly super-fast at that point. After the 2 Ethiopian stragglers I couldn't even see the next runner come through the line at 3K. It was a very weak field for a DL race though.
Also, the first rabbit was great, running 2:35.5, 2:35.7, but then the 2nd rabbit slowed to nearly 2:41; too bad, since they might have had a chance at sub-12:50 with a solid 3rd K (then again maybe the slow down kept them from blowing up in the last laps).
Depends on their steroid meat supply.

Who was the guy rolling around on the home straightaway?
Was wondering that myself.
Not bad.... wrote:
Perhaps because he ran a 7:35 5 days ago?
Well, 7:35 for 3000m is impressive, but shouldn't 5 days be enough for recovery?
Not to mention Botswana also has Nijel Amos who could make the team as well.

800 race is interesting
56.5 requested opener with 2s +ve splits, that is 1'55.0 pace !!!
hassan off that nonsense 60+ opener in a 3'57 is quite clearly in 3'53/3'54 shape in a perfect race, however that is not going to get her anywhere close to 1'55.0
these 1500/3k gals usually don't have better than 54s speed
54.0 / 3'53 - 3'54 ->
1'56.53 - 1'56.81
hassan woud do very well to run 1'57-flat
for her to run ~ 1'55.0 requires far better 400 speed than likely 54.0 even though she brings 3'53/3'54 endurance to the table
hassan & muir both got ambushed
the suicidal pace ruined their clockings with huge amount having to be run wide
hassan looks to have run ~ 6.5m extra on bends ->
~ 1'57.1
& you can knock off some serious tenths from that for wild splits
ideal race she couda run ~ 1'56-mid/high but she needs to do it in a race without niyonbongo & look for race with 28-low/57-low openers
this tells me hassan is in ~ 3'53 shape right now
muir is in surprising good shape as well
no drafting on 1st lap & also wide running on bends - outer lane 2 at end of last bend !!!
i think she coud run ~ 1'57-flat/low currently in ideal race
