My heel has progressively gotten worse as I ran on what I didn't realize was a "real" injury for about 6 months. It has finally reached the point where I took some time off, about a week. Returning to running, it felt better for a few days, then started hurting the same as before the time off. So I tried running through it for another month, but it just kept getting worse.
Finally it was to the point of barely being able to run, so I went to the doctor to find out what it is.
So then I took a month off. It felt better but hurt as if I never took any time off withing two short runs of about 3 miles.
So, in an effort to avoid surgery or a cortisone shot, any ideas?
I have no pain walking around barefoot or in sandals, so I only wear shoes when I am running or absolutely have to for other reasons (in the shop, etc).
I've been doing heel massages, which seem to help.
Ibuprofen didn't help at all earlier (gave that a month) so I've given up on that.
I tried zero drop shoes and it didn't help.
It seems like a good part of the pain is from the shoes pressing on my heel. Has anybody had any experience with running sandals? What about just cutting the heel out of an old pair of running shoes? I have a pair I just retired, so might try that.
Any other thoughts?
