what happened to him?

I am guessing he dropped because he knew he didn't have 53 in him which is what he needed for the standard. Rather than stupidly sprinting a 55 for no reason, he chose to save it for another attempt in the near future.

100% correct. Lived to fight another day.

Yes, this happens a lot. If you don't have it. Step off the track.

That's what it looked like to me. He's not going to get his qualifier, if he gets it, in this type of race. He needs to be in a European race with many runners he can key off.
he's a pansy. Then don't slow to 60s splits.
If he's injured or doesn't qualify, who is the next to go in his place to London?
Another case study in noballs American style running. Know you need a 3:36? Set up a hot pace, don't follow the pace, and everyone runs another meh time.

Exactly. Go with the pacer if you want the standard. Weak, weak effort. At least he didn't have on a headband or sunglasses, I guess.
I think it would be Blankenship
Then Blankenship should enter every race Andrews does to psyche him out
This is the problem with jogging at the US champs. The best runners don't make the team. Two of the 3 1500 team got smoked.
At least Centro will get back on the sauce and make the final.

Or maybe Robby just felt like sh*t from the gun. Sometimes that happens. He's just a guy, not a superhuman; sometimes guys feel like sh*t. Calm down.

I mean I agree he can have off days and has a much better chance to get this time in a European race... but he didn't give a very good effort today. 1:55 through 800 should be a jog. If he goes to Europe and they come through in 1:52 what's he gonna do.

Blankenship got 12th at USAs... what are you talking about? Next in line is Craig Engels.
This is a case where Andrews' tactical prowess hurts him - guy can't time trial for shit. That's why he doesn't have the fastest times. Probably needs to work on more, longer tempos to work on this, his body needs to know what it feels like to be in pain for long periods of time.

Next with the qualifier is Blankenship (?)

True. But you have to place in the top 8 regardless to go.
