And he would have made it last year and this year if it wasn't for the Kenyans discovering the Army shortcut....
Bor DQ. Clearly drifted into Bayer's stride in last 50 meters.
I don't think they are 'piggy-backing' off of the army. Did you hear what Simmons said about Julius Bor (1500 meter runner)?
Julius is not at these championships because he was deployed in Afghanistan recently.
These guys are not piggy-backing.

In front of 2 kenyans that are piggy backing off of the team "army".
Show some respect, civilian.
They do more for the country than you every have or ever will.

Didn't impede the dying Bayer in the least bit.

Do these guys actually do any training specifically for the army ? Not just track
He was also 4th at the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 1500. :/
Although that was an amazing race for him at the time, so not a disappointment. Might not have had the standard either, can't remember.

Runs his last lap in 58.5 and doesn't make the team.
He did not have the standard in 2012, and if memory serves, he wasn't close to third.
Came up on the inside on guys who were flailing and going backwards. I'd say that one probably wasn't painful.
This is a common occurrence in other events too. i'll say it, i understand that bor and a few other guys are Americans and I understand they have a right to be here and to compete for the U.S, but I rooted for guys like Bayer, Cabral, Mead, Hill, and True who have been trying tor years to make it.
Can you blame me?
I still think True should have gone with just the 10k. Maybe he finally will in 2019. If there is one.
Oh come on, it's not like they've just switched allegiance. Hillary Bor has lived here for 14 years. Maybe he knew he'd eventually be good enough to go pro, but I doubt it. They're just here because living in kenya kind of sucks, and they happen to be really fast.

How does this whole thing work anyways? What are the requirements they have to complete for the military when they take this path? Does this mean someday Paul Chelimo will get deployed and miss a championship?

Pretty sure they have them run messages between battalions.
He is getting closer however. Less than 0.1 this time.
