Long Runs question on how many days till another one...

Ditch the elliptical and run those days

Thousands of runners over the past 50 years have done 1 long run a week at 20% weekly volume, and 1 secondary long run at 15% weekly volume. The other five days are usually 1 interval workout, 1 lactate threshold workout, and 2 easy runs and 1 garbage recovery day if necessary (easy run otherwise).

Also, no ellipticalling.

If you can't run every day, you're running too hard

Depends on your main event too. The longer the even, the more important the long run.

If I am just doing a regular pace long run I will do one every week, usually topping at 120 minutes for me (I don't do marathons)

If I am closer to a main event, my long run usually is run either faster or with intervals in it or something like that, these I usually do one every 2 weeks, but I don't plan them, I just do them once I feel recovered, usually making sure to fit 1 in a 14 day cycle

Tuesday: Off

Wednesday: Gym/Eliptical

Thursday: Gym/Eliptical

Friday: 10 Miles

Saturday: 3 Miles

Does that sound doable or scrap the second long run?

Are you really doing ANY long runs? I consider 90 minutes to be the least amount which I'd call a long run.

Secondarily, based on your schedule, you'd probably benefit from doing one long run and (at least) one workout per week. Get on a treadmill instead of elliptical if you MUST go to the gym.

Lots of people can't run everyday no matter how slow. I've seen people run for years who can't run 3 days in a row without developing runners knee.

Well I can't top 30 miles. The most I have run in a week is 26 miles.

I can do instead:

Sunday: Did 12 for lost funny story

3 Miles tomorrow

Rest Tuesday

Gym/Eliptical Wednesday

5 Miles Thursday

Gym/2 Miles Friday

5 Miles Saturday
