I just started running several months ago, and I began developing some knee pain a couple of months ago. It wasn't too bad, and it would usually go away during my runs. I also did not get more pain after running. I used to wait tables and cocktail about a year and a half ago, so my knees would sometimes act up with a dull ache. However, I haven't had any pain since leaving that job until recently.
A couple of weeks ago, I went on a day trip and did a lot of walking around with a slightly heavy backpack. I also went on a short hike that day, and the shoes I ended up bringing were too small! The next few days I had intense shin pains that would hurt just sitting in class along with pains in my knees. My shin pains have mostly gone away but certain areas do feel tender to the touch. My right tibia has a small bump (feels like the size of a dime) and is tender. I have not ran since June 1st, and I ceased all activities for a week after my day trip on June 2nd. I have tried cross training (swimming, stationary bike, rowing) and I have found that it still aggravates my knees (rowing especially!). I went cycling and rowing 4 or 5 days ago and it not only gave me knee pain but the inner side of my shins, right above the ankle and slightly to the front, were kind of hurting as well. My shins also sometimes hurt when I'm in a deep squat, like if I'm trying to retrieve something from the bottom shelf at the store.
I am a student and don't want to spend money on an MRI just to be told to rest longer. Any advice on what it sounds like?
