I missed his jumps. Did anyone see his jumps?
Taylor had a bye to Worlds.
Did he even make an effort on the first one?
Not what our sport needs someone making a mockery of the US Champs. (I'll reverse my judgement if he's really injured)

NBCSN said he had to show up to be in Worlds but no, he just jogged through the jump
Agreed. Professional athletes need to compete more. If he's injured he gets a pass, but if not he should be dropped from the US roster.
He has the auto to worlds...all he has to do is "compete"

How is this not like how the top seeds in the NFL playoffs get a pass to the divisional round?
If he mailed it in like it appears... really surprising and disappointing... Taylor always comes across as a great humble dude.

Why in the world would he risk anything when he doesn't have to?
Christian explained why he did what he did here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL89FZ-17_E
Not injured. Could have competed here but clearly he gets paid to compete somewhere else. I wish for the fans he gave it an honest effort.
I'd be fine is USATF put in a rule and said if you don't compete honestly as the Champs you don't go to Worlds. Would be some judgment involved but our sport needs its stars competing. PGA Tour has requirements to be on tour, I'm fine with USATF tightening up its standards.

The more standardization you put in a schedule, the less one-off and grassroots meets there are. Also, the less competative the US team will be against nations that allow athletes to prioritize their schedules iver the federations.
Moreover, I'm not sure why you think the stars need to compete. The incentive is to win championships. Obviously the sport is fine with the stars competing just a few times a year.
We can look at examples where athletes were clearly obligated to compete when they didn't want to. How would the sport be better with more BTC-at-Prefontaine races going on?
I can't believe it.
Here, an athlete intelligently notes the rules and saves energy as is wise, and gets mocked by "fans"?
It reminds me of Coe's tongue-clucking over the "unacceptable" women's badminton in 2012, because they would rather save their energy for the finals, rather than play useless qualifying matches.
(Of course, when UK rowers intentionally lost 60 years ago, it was said to be "smart", but that's their privilege showing.)
Don't hate the player, hate the game (i.e., admin rules).

And their Week 17 games typically involve sitting the stars on the bench.

You lame mfers will criticize anyone over anything lol
Wouldn't Taylor's actions also allow a fourth U.S. triple jumper to compete in the World Championships or would that still have happened regardless of his place?
Gotta disagree with you on this Wejo. He flew from Holland. That's wear and tear. He jumped. That's wear and tear. Triple Jump is not easy on the body. It is a taxing sport that doesn't need to be over competed because all the training to fix issues and perfect nuance is taxing enough. If there is no need to compete to go to World's there is no need to put the wear and tear on the body. The real event is World's not US Champs.
Besides, if Taylor is the only thing to see in the TJ, then there isn't much to miss.
This is not a bye, this is the division championship.
The system is at fault here. With no standard schedule or league paycheck from USATF he has the right to do what's best for him.
Don't agree with it but it's his choice. Certainly you can compete back to back.

If the sole objective is to win championships... why the fvck is there a need for fans? And to grow the sport?
The fans are just as important as the athletes...its a symbiotic relationship neither side should take for granted

Dude, get the fack over yourself. You're coming across like a spoiled brat. You'll see him in London where he'll put in 6 honest efforts. Until then have a seat.
What happens if Wejo's first post says how awesome Christian Taylor is for playing the game to perfection? Does everyone hate on him and say it's bad for the sport?
Anyway, about Christian Taylor making a mockery of the US Champs, as Wejo correctly stated. It's not the first time! He made a mockery of the ENTIRE WORLD by winning the World Championships and Olympics. He does what he wants!!!! He is THE BEST IN THE ENTIRE GALAXY KNOWN AS EARTH!!!
Next time you're the current World and Olympic Champion you have permission to call out another World and Olympic Champion for their tactics. Until then, pay attention!

If he has a bye to worlds he shouldn't have even had to come, if he just had to show up why put serious effort in and risk any chance of an injury?
