Working my way back to running. Used to run 5k in HS but would go out too fast. Ran 5:36 first mile but would die on the last two and finished in the 19:2x range. But when I ran 5:59 first mile I was able to finish 18:5x.
Am training for the half. Right now I'm doing 4-5 miles a day. I run the first few miles at a generally even pace and then the last one I pick it up. The last 200m I don't sprint, but try to increase leg turnover while being steady.
This is just my base workout and not a tempo run. Is this a good tactic the more I build on my daily mileage? (6-7 mpd for weekly runs, not counting the 10-12 mile long run).
Or should I just do the 4-5 easy at steady pace and not tempo up the last mile and save the tempos for their own days? Am trying to do it to simulate fatigue at mile 11-12 so I can finish strong.
