No reason to blame Trump, or Obama. This has been coming for a long time. A friend of mine owns several locations and has said that he will not reduce his staff much at all. He did say that now he will save on food cost for "misorders" that people have had in the past. Whether the worker misheard the customer or whether the customer never specified something, it always fell on McDonalds to fix it. Now if you mess up your order it's on you, as long as they prepare it how you entered it in.

These jobs are being replaced NOW, at the current minimum wage rates, and they will continue to be replaced by automation regardless of the minimum wage rates in the future. Instead of trying to combat the inevitable by advocating for slave wages, maybe conservatives should start thinking about what we're going to to do when there are no jobs for tens of millions of people who have been automated out of the workforce. Doing something to actually help them will be out of the question, I expect.

This is not a question for "conservatives", it's a question for philosophers. Back in Veblen's "conspicuous consumption" days (say 1890), the elite classes worried about what the hoi polloi would do with all the free time they'd soon have from reduced working hours (probably fearing a revolution, given the anarchist tendencies in those times). It seems that the answer was: they'd use it (free time) to work more, to make more money, ...

Furthermore, the idea that government should "actually help" people is a dubious one, and the actual practice of this has proven disastrous over the centuries. Rather, a government should ensure a suitable conditions (e.g. lack of war) so that those who wish to "actually help" people can do so.

Pick up some real skills like making French fries or cooking burgers. There are plenty of jobs left to do.

The world needs more plumbers. Unfortunately, government won't let us build our business.

Every job can be replaced by AI. Every. Even computer scientists. Has anyone seen the Terminator movies.

So the kiosks are being paid a minimum wage? Looks like the customer is now the cashier.

They can help themselves by going to libraries and reading. The poorest communities in the United States still have affordable community colleges where valuable trade skills can learned.
