I rotate shoes and I think it helps, but I can't really point you to scientific proof.
The way I look at it, you still get the same number of miles out of the shoes anyway and it might help, so why not do it? So, for example, if you get new shoes every 2 months wearing 1 only shoe, you go through 6 pairs a year. If you rotate 3 pairs, you still go through 6 pairs a year, but they last 6 months each.
