Boise is also looking like a potential podium squad with at least 2 very low sticks.
25% chance they are both healthy at the same time at that point in the season.

McDonald, Knight, and Fisher are all in the same range when it comes to the mile even if one has a faster time than the other or one has a faster kick.
In a 10 km XC race... It will be interesting to see what other runners throw down on these three guys.
With Knight at the WC he might redshirt XC given his extra long track season. McDonald is also racing through the summer but my guess is his Wisconsin coach will run him this XC season for the needed points. Fisher shut it down after NCAA's and is probably on a slow build for XC. Stanford's team, how it looks this Fall, might cause his coach to redshirt Fisher.
That would be strange if all three of these guys redshirted.
I wouldn't think so McDonald may be aiming to make Comm Games in Australia in 2018. His 13:23 this summer and 3:55 mile show that he is back on track after missing some of indoor season.

His coach may need the points out of McDonald versus helping team Australia. Wisconsin is buttering McDonald's bread and their team... er, coach needs all the help they can get.
Not saying that is the correct approach, rather I am saying that may be the most realistic outcome.
Do you think McDonald will race or redshirt this XC season?
13:15 for 5k today! Not bad not bad at all......
Just selected to represent Australia at London Worlds......wow who would have thought!!!! Good luck to him and the aussie squad. NCAA college coaches if your not recruiting in Australia you are probably missing out.

The United States NCAA tax payer sponsored system doesn't need to be an international team selection process. There needs to be limits to international student athletes who displace American student athletes.
My suggestion to the NCAA is to limit international athletes on a roster to 25%

*In a mocking, whining voice
"There needs to be limiiiiiiits.."
..Why?... And prevent individuals from getting an education? College isn't solely for running. People get degrees, too. That's like saying colleges should only let 25% of their admitted students be international.
That said, there are very, very few schools that even have more than 25% international athletes on their team. Some schools are hot beds for international athletes, but that is just their niche. American athletes can just go run for another school.

Guaranteed Ednah Kurgat of UNM will win it. UNM women will be a top 5 team
It's a shame they don't allow Americans to run at that university.
If you were more talented and had good grades, you might. But you also seem petty, doesn't mesh with the team. So, nah.

There are a lot of Americans on the team, just not as many on varsity. Their UK connection and Kenyan girls guarantee a strong squad with the faster American girls rounding out varsity. They are going to be dangerous this year, although I am obviously very partial.
Well it seems that all of Australia''s men's 5k runners running at worlds were educated and ran in the US system. Those schools should be proud of giving these young people opportunities.
Now about limits if you think their should be limits to Track and Field/Cross Country then go to you local university and see how many of the school's tennis team members are from foreign country's. It will surprise you.

25% limit applicable to all NCAA sports.

+1
A year too early but now a 13:15 5k runner and one to watch in 2018. Training partner from NSW's in Hoare. Wisconsin now the training ground of Australia's best distance runners?
Well just a year later...congrats to the boy from NSW's!
Tiernan and McDonald were both U18 XC Champs in back to back years in 2011 and 2012. Fields included McSweyn 13:05 5k Luke Matthews Comm game medalist, Jack Rayner 61 min 1/2 guy and Jake Birtwhistle one of the best triathletes in the world. Good to see such talented aussies on world scene.
And an even better young fella out of the same Sydney stable heading to Wisco next year.
