You are definitely on a par with Ventolin/Calculo and Bad Wigins.
On a normal forum where the administrators also look for some reasonable behavior and some profitable conversations, you (and your friends) long would have banned.
No comments to the facts which you don't like. Continuing writing of the same things as facts, which are not facts. Which are DEFINITELY not facts. This is some sort of lying.
Just for the other readers of this strange conversation (definitely not many will do this): I don't want to belittle the acheivements of Ovett in any way. And I don't want to heighten the achievements of Aouita in any way. (Btw, I have never said he is the greatest mid/long distance runner ever, please stop talking like this. Please also stop talking like I'm some sort of drug supporter. Thanks.).
But this CoeOvettCramElliott-and-maybe-any-other-british-runner-who-has-ever-lived-supporter is changing any facts as he pleases just to put Ovett in a good light. And this is so laughable.
Aouita has just won i single bronce medal at global 1500m competitions. And, according to him, has (probably) never won a real race at the distance. He really must have been a terrible 1500m runner. But from the top of his head he can list 4 (four) great races at the distance from his hero Ovett.
Well, Ovett also has won just a single bronce medal in global competitions over 1500m. And Ovett - other than Aouita - was a pure 1500m runner almost during his full career.
Anyone with just a little bit of historical knowledge of the subject and a little bit of common sense just knows that this not in any way reflects Ovett's place in 1500m history. For sure Mr (?) CoeOvett.. will list some of the reasons why Ovett still is one of the greates here despite his very weak medal count. And that's OK.
And when someone interested in the subject thinks that Aouita's single medal reflects his true capabilities, than he is just stupid (or enormously biased, like CoeOvett...). Most of Aouita's races were not time trials (for sure this is not something bad at all, but just for clarification).
Our hero here happily lists Ovett's two victories against the famous José Luis Ganzales before LA '84. Aouita has beaten Gonzalez two times in '86 over the Mile. A season in which he concentrated on the long distance events and Gonzalez has had a better season than in '84 (btw: Aouita has a 13/0 win/loss record against Gonzalez in 83-89 - after this, both have won several races).
Aouita has a 6/0 win/loss record against Ovett. But for sure I would never list this to demonstrate how great he was and how weak Ovett. Because most of these races were run when Aouita was in his prime and Ovett not anymore.
It's a big shame that these 4 runners (Aouita, Coe, Cram, Ovett) were not racing more often against each other. Especially when in peak form. The absolute unique low point in this is the Coe/Ovett racing scedule.
It was definitely also Aouita's decision not to race a specific runner sometimes. No doubt. But he was not worse than the others here.
Cram vs. Aouita was the spoken duel, not against the others. And they have raced in 84 and 85. In 86 it would not have been fair, since Aouita concentrated on the longer events, in 87 Aouita wanted to attack the 10000m World Record. But still they should have raced against each other I think (Btw, Aouita has beaten the World Champ Bile by a big margin). And definitely in 88 before Seoul. But I'm pretty sure that it was the decision of both not to race. As said: what a shame.
Aouita choose to run the 800m in Seoul because the brits were not anymore at their best? This is just so laughable. He knew in 87 that Cram is not at this best in Seoul? But Cram and Coe not at all were the main contenders. Billy Konchellah in his '87 form would have been close to unbeatable for anyone. What a senseless discussion...
Do you really think he could make this decision just a few weeks before Seoul? This was his long time plan (the 1500m and - if he reached a sub 1:44 - also the 800m). That Ovett never would have beaten Aouita over 800m in Aouita's prime is out of question. Also that he would have not a chance against Coe and Cram at their best.
