Splits?
Splits?
Unofficial splits but I had 58, 2:00, 3:03
Most of those guys have had numerous hard races this year, going back to cross country. You can only go to the well so many times before it runs dry.
They were at 3:35 at 200 to go, at 400 to go they were at ~3:03. That was a stacked race for pretty much nothing.
@dj burnout Principe
These were not the best guys. If Brown or Hasty was in that race they would have won.
and you got the splits at 402, 804, 1206, and 1609? You probably did but it's an easy mistake to make in the Mile.
Got them at the 400m mark
A 16-year-old would have beaten them all by nearly half a straightaway. Pathetic.

You can lead the horses to water but you can't make them drink.
if the field had been less stacked I think they would have done it. I know that seems counter intuitive, since it was hyped up because of the stacked field, but consider this:
1) Those 4:00 guys are so far above most high schoolers that they have little experience running in big packs on the track, which happened when they put this many guys capable of running that fast on the track. This led to jostling, inefficiency (running in lane two), etc.
2) Once you get past 4:04 the odds of those guys going under 4 are significantly worse than the guys who are at 4:00. When you're at that level a few seconds is a big difference.
So adding in a ton of people makes the first 1000-1200 less efficient, and beyond the guys at 4:00-4:02 it doesn't really increase the chance of seeing a sub-4.
It's a race though, so I'm glad they did it the way they did.
No one was holding them back from running faster the 3rd lap.
These guys have been trying to hold a peak for too long now. I'm not surprised about the result. Time to fill the tank up again.

Inefficiency and running further in the second lane does slow you down later in the race. When you're trying to run that close to you're maximum ability, that kind of inefficiency in the beginning of the race has a significant impact. Listen to the interview with Sam Worley.

Remember, 7 guys ran a PR in that race.
We are only disappointed with Worley (the winner), Teare, Principe and Clinger (who is one of the 7 that PRed).
