All 5 winners were born abroad, as Grant Fisher is a US citizen but was born in Canada.
And this is without Cheserek taking his usual haul.
800m: Kenya
1500m: England
3000m steeple: Kenya
5000m: USA (born in Canada)
10000m: England
Two other points stood out. First, it's not the case that the winner just happened to be foreign and all the next runners were American - look at the next five runners in the 5k, we were nowhere to be found (except Fisher) in the marquee distance event. Second, it's not just a few Kenyans doing all the damage, countries like England are taking us to town in our own national meet.
2nd: Australia
3rd: Canada
4th: England
5th: Kenya
6th: Australia
I realize that some of the top American guys like Hunter, Brazier, Murray have turned pro and would otherwise take some of these top spots. But countries like Kenya, Australia, and England surely aren't sending all their prime talent and we still only manage to get one guy in the top 6 of the 5k? Despite our awesome showing at the Olympics last year and a crop of recent sub-4 HS milers, is this cause for concern?
