3:59.30 at St. Louie festival of miles!
boy he did it
Since no one is paying attention to the other threat on Festival of miles
Makes him the 10th high schooler to go sub 4
Here is a quick recap with results
Awesome! Hopefully a few more can go under this year.
What a stud! This makes me all the more excited for that Brooks PR race, if Reed can do it, so can Teare and Worley (if 2 more guys went sub-4, would that make it the most sub-4 highschoolers in one season?). Also Mcnamara in 4:11 w/ a 67 last lap...ouchy.
We watched the race again to get his splits.
He hit 409 in 61.6 , 809 in 2:02.6, 1209 in about 3:02.3 but had enough in the last 400 to get the job done.
Could really have 5 this year. 4:00 guys Teare, Worley, and Principe all next week at Brooks PR. Clinger has an outside shot too this weekend at Adidas Dream Mile.

You do know they posted the FAT splits at the bottom of the article you posted, right?

Yes the record for most sub 4 runners in a season is 2
2015, Maton-3:59.38, Fisher-3:59.38
2016-Hunter-3:57.81, Slagowski- 3:59.53
I wonder if this year will achieve a better average as well as more sub 4s. If Clinger gets into the right race I'm sure he can do it too.
It's probably worth mentioning it was run on a HS track with no rail so it wouldn't count for USATF qualifying purposes most likely. Not that he cares, but there was no rail.
#11 = Waleed Suliman
I think Suliman is near certain to break it unless something seriously goes wrong. He ran 4:04 basically solo in a home meet (1600 not mile, but still). The next finisher was 20+ seconds behind him.
Does Reed go pro after he graduates?
Fantastic. Excellent close in 56.8 by the official splits.
He looked like he was the least likely of the top guys to break it, but had a chance and here he does it first and with promise in that last lap of running even faster. If the other thread is right, Cooper Teare has a broken toe. Principe could still do it. And Sam Worley and Clinger both are in shape to do it.
Congratulations to Reed on another spectacular accomplishment!
Clinger's Friday night mile attempt in Somerville, MA is set for 7:11 pm local time. The weather forcast, for what it's worth:
Friday: A slight chance of showers between noon and 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail. Increasing clouds, with a high near 72. West wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 11pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Reed is one clutch M---F----.
#4 fastest prep ever.
3:02 with 400 to go! Is that not the hardest way to do it? It has to hurt.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
