I've been having horrible allergies since I ran out of the normal-grade Zyrtec I take nightly. I told my mom about this, and asked her to bring me some allergy meds when she visited this weekend, assuming she'd buy me the usual. My mom took my description of severity to heart, and, being the worrier she is, bought me a 15 tablet box Claritin-D; active ingredients Lortadine and Pseudophrine.
I've followed the doping sagas of late, so when I glanced at the box, Psuedophrine stuck out to me. Searching its name on this forums confirmed my worst suspicions -- Pseudophrine is a banned substance.
I race for a club college team (only XC, so season's long over), and have been training pretty seriously for some road races this summer. One in particular is approaching in a few weeks, and has a lot of sentimental value for me. Prize money is not distributed, but it's very competitive, there is a small award for placing well.
My dilemma is; take the Claritin or not? On one hand, I'll never be tested and I'll never be stealing money. In addition, I've had a bad eating disorder that's made me much heftier than my normal self, and anybody my age doing my kinda mileage (60-80). My University has horrid medical/counseling services in this regard, so I'm not bothering to see anyone till summer). And I'll only be taking it for 2 weeks. My friends are egging me on in this camp.
On the other hand, I'm worried that if I hit/exceed my goals at the upcoming race, I'll be haunted for life. I'm not the most principled person, and I've generally symphatized with Salazar on grey-area supplements, but I have a strong conscience. I don't want to steal an award from a fellow hard-worker who may not have done supplements (perhaps there's room for probablistic rational choice equation here), and blatant cheating is something I hate. I'm also fairly paranoid, so I'm worried of a Lady Macbeth-esque situation (Out, damn pills!)
Take the Claritin, or toss it?
