I always remembered El Guerrouj's 1500m win in Athens 2004 as one of the greatest mile/1500m races of all time.
But what I forgot or maybe didn't realize until just now is that Kelly Holmes won double gold in the 800m and 1500m that year. She won the 1500m in a fast time, 3:57.90.
Here's a link to the video of both races (one after the other):

The crazy thing about the 1500 is to think about how many of those runners were on drugs. Russians finished 2nd, 4th, 11th (and we basically know Tomashova was doping). The bronze medallist was from Romania, and she died young in a car crash (horrible, I had no idea). The 5th place runner was from Bulgaria and was banned for a testosterone positive in 2008. 6th and 7th were from Poland, no doping bans. Abeylegesse was 8th, she was banned. What a crazy list of finishers:
1 Kelly Holmes Great Britain 3:57.90 NR
2 Tatyana Tomashova Russia 3:58.12 PB
3 Maria Cioncan Romania 3:58.39 PB
4 Natalya Yevdokimova Russia 3:59.05 PB
5 Daniela Yordanova Bulgaria 3:59.10PB
6 Lidia Chojecka Poland 3:59.27 SB
7 Anna Jakubczak Poland 4:00.15 PB
8 Elvan Abeylegesse Turkey 4:00.67
9 Carmen Douma-Hussar Canada 4:02.31 PB
10 Natalia Rodriguez Spain 4:03.01 SB
11 Olga Yegorova Russia 4:05.65
12 Hasna Benhassi morocco 4:12.90
