Looks like Jim Walmsley is starting forest fires with his training runs up there in the snow.
Does ANYBODY have a chance of beating him this year?

I don't think anybody can beat him, no Sage, no Kilian, Zack Miller isn't running, I think Mocko is way too new. UTMB will be the one to watch this year, States is a clean win for Walmsley.
Roll Call:
Jeff Browning*
Thomas Lorblanchet*
Paul Giblin
Iam Sharman*
Chris Mocko*
Kyle Pietari
Chris Dennuchi*
Jesse Haynes*
David Byrne
Tofol Castanyer*
Erik Clavery
Jeff Ball
Joel Frost-Tift
Ryan Kaiser
Alex Nichols*
Elov Olsson*
Avery Collins
Kyle Boykin
Jim Walmsley*
Ben Koss
Zachary Szablewski
Jared Burdick
Brian Rusiecki*
Zach Bitter*
Jonas Budd*
Mike Wardian*

It's clearly Walmsley then everybody else. Zach Miller and Killian are probably the only people who can even push him at 100 miles right now and they aren't running. At 50 miles, obviously Max King and that new kid Hawks would come into play.
Only Walmsley will be able to beat Walmsley tomorrow.
In that field, I'd say only Alex Nichols has a chance. But only if Walmsley has a problem. Unlikely, but hey.
I see this going 1 of 2 ways in the men's race. Walmsley runs a historical race, or blows up and loses it all. I don't see anyone being able to run with him if he's having a good day.
I think Elov Olsson, Alex Nichols and Chris Mocko have the best chances at podium spots.
I think Kaci will win again. I just don't see Camille being able to win this year, there's other runners just as talented as her on the trails that have more experience running this race.
Anyone see Walmsley's interview on Irunfar? He seems a little....uh....lubricated
See for yourselves!!
Not a surprise considering his DUI and getting kicked out of Air Force for cheating

I think Ryan Sandes is in this year. 15:03, 2nd to Olson in 2012. If he's in that form, and I know nothing about him, then he would have a shot at podium.
If it were a normal or cool weather day, Walmsley would be hands down the favorite, but the extreme heat increases the chances of him blowing up and someone else having a chance. If he goes out conservative then he will win. But if he goes out at sub-14 pace he is at high risk of blowing up in the heat and someone else taking the victory.
The women's field is stacked as well, but no clear favorite like the men's race. Kaci is a certain contender. Camille is a wildcard. She really has nothing to lose since she just won Comrades and there will be no shame if she doesn't pull of the double. She also has a hit-or-miss record in trail races and I believe this is her first 100 miler which nobody else seems to be taking into consideration. My pick for the women's race though is Stephanie Howe who is a former winner of the race and finally healthy after a long time off for injury. She beat Camille in a 100K in January, although Camille was coming off injury at that time.

Jim being drunk in this interview is less distracting then Bryan Powells hideous hairdo.
I think Camille either DNFs or wins. Would like to see her pull it off.
My money is on YiOu Wang for the upset over Kaci/Magda/Stephanie.
YiOu Wang and Chris Mocko for the wins!

LOL. You do realize he grew up in Scottsdale and probably ran 1,500 miles in the PHX area in the last year, right?
Walmsley is very annoying but I don't see anyone else winning, unless he drowns in the river or takes a wrong turn (again).

He bonked. He took a wrong turn because he went out too hard. The chances of that happening again are high, since he wants to set the record.
We'll see and it should be exciting. His style of running is exciting to run. He said he's going to front run it. Who's not excited for tomorrow? He got the sauce out of his system. That interview was last night. Hopefully he's not doing the stupid stuff the partying runners in that ultra running book barefoot were doing. A couple decafs and straight to bed for Walmsley tonight.
