Customers pack carryons with all they can. The FEDs are supplemented the TSA doing free labor for the airlines.

As long as I can take my iPhone on the flight who cares?

Rewrite using intelligible English please.
If they put this all-electronics ban into place I'm going to have to re-evaluate some stuff.
I mean, I get that you like your iphone, whatever.
I have a $14,000 Hasselblad medium-format camera I shoot with when I travel (which is about 8 times a year). I can't be putting that into a checked bag. That's nuts!

Yeah, this is a problem for anyone traveling with a decent SLR system or higher. I know some friends check their gear in Pelicases, but I always carry mine on. Hopefully this doesn't change.

So tell me more about this. I assume they lock the case, but TSA can break into if they want, right?
So what's to stop any baggage person from opening the case and swiping a body or lens?

9/11 was the government, right?
If I were airplane tsar, I would require airlines to allow passengers at least 1 free bag.
It is ridiculous and unsafe all of the crap people haul onto airplanes to avoid bag fees and it makes it take longer to get on and off as people try to arrange stuff in the bins and stow junk all around their feet.

I agree. The incentives should be structured to encourage people to check their luggage as much as possible and only carry on essentials (or fragile/high value items).

I haven't checked a bag in almost 2 million bis miles. I couldn't care less about fees. It's all about IROPS, especially on intl. flights with multiple segments.

Which is a fair point, but people with 2 million air miles who carry on their bags are usually not the problem. They usually actually want to get on and off the plane in an efficient way and know what they're doing.
It's the occasional travelers with big bags that they can never figure out how to get in the bins or that they have to put in a bin behind themselves and hold up traffic in the aisle because the bins are stuffed, etc that waste everyone's time. All to save $25 bucks.

Can't disagree. And it's the same people that get to the front of the security line and then have to empty their the pockets, take off their belts and coats, and dig through their luggage for liquids while everyone waits for them. Is it so difficult to just be prepared?
