In July I will be racing the Chicago Rock N Roll Half Marathon, last year was the first time I ran a half, and the weather down here in Chicago was pretty nice with a good overcast. My PR from last year was 1:24:55, and I ran another one in NO in February and improved to 1:21:01. Since then I have been on a sort of relentless pursuit to drop times, recently running a 5k in 17:10 with my PR from before being 18:10. I have been gearing up to PR on June 4th, hopefully running a 16:40.
Training: For the last 10+ weeks I have been averaging 70+ miles a week, peaking at 80 several times, and have been lingering at 70 for the last 4. A typical week for me has been "easy" running, and I say easy with quotes because my easy pace is often too fast, but I still feel relatively recovered for workouts, cause I hit all the paces. Besides easy runs, my long runs always go above 13+ miles, I have two workouts generally. One Threshold, and one Interval. Most recently I ran an interval of 6x800 (2:40 avg) and a Tempo of 6 miles @ 5:54 avg. Both were hard, but the tempo is what I seek to really go off of in terms of my half prediction. The tempo wasn't painfully difficult since my 10k pace is around 5:40. I truly believe I can go sub 1:17 and keep a 5:52 pace. So my question is based on the times and the tempo run I showed, do you think it's at all reasonable that from now till July 15th that I can expect to break 1:17 or even better.
More about me: 20yrs old, ambitiously gunning for a 2:3x ish Boston next year, and I have far too much time on my hands. I know based off my marathon time last year it may seem a little cray cray (2:57), but I don't mind dying at Boston If I know I gave all I was capable of. Last year was my first marathon btw, so I'm still new to this, and RNR Chicago will be my 3rd half. Only been at this running thing for a little less than 2 years.
