It's never too early. Just don't run with pressure on yourself. Enjoy your runs. Ride a bike. Have a cool down swim.
The only time you'd want to wait is if your too out of shape to run a decent tempo. But I'd start doing at least farleks and hills even if your out of shape.
To answer your question, there is no "too early". Start them as early as possible, but don't push too hard.
