I used to run quite a bit and raced often in HS/college, but a back injury has put me on a 3-day a week schedule for the last 7 or so years and I haven't raced at all, just ran for fitness. I've finally started training for a race again (the Bolder Boulder) and I'm curious what you guys think I can run for 10K. I haven't raced in so long that I'm a bit uncertain.
I started running more regularly in February, I ran a 10K time trial at about 90% effort a few weeks ago (42:58), and recently ran a track workout to try to get some speed into my legs. The idea was to run 10K total at faster than 10K pace. 90 seconds rest between reps. It was pretty relaxed until the last two reps, which were quite hard.
2k: 8:10
2k: 8:08
2k: 8:08
1k: 3:56
1k: 3:54
1k: 3:51
500: 1:43
500: 1:43
Thoughts? I'd like to go for it since I never race anymore, but don't want to blow up. 42:00 pace? 41:30 pace?
