Track just ended and it's been three days since I last ran. IT IS KILLING ME. I'm not even tired or injured and all I can think about is when I can start running. I'm wondering how important this break really is, do I really need a full week off?

I only took three days. So far it is going great. I might not have even needed that much or I might find out in a few weeks that I needed more. You live and learn.
A few days off, then a few weeks about half of your peak mileage, then slowly transition to full base mileage over a few weeks.

So is it okay to sacrifice time off for my mental well-being, or is it going to prevent me from recovering physically?
Last year I didn't feel tired or drained at all after my track season, I went straight into my summer training. I ended up not having a great XC season. Although, I don't think it was because I didn't take a few days off. However, I am going to take 5-10 days of this year because I have a minor injury and am kind of mentally tired. Live and learn kind of thing, I always say it's better to take time off now than later.
