I was prescribed prednisone since i got poison ivy last week. I had a big pr yesterday running 49.11 over my old 49.94. I was wondering if this was largely from the prednisone or from actually being faster or having a better race.

It allows you to access a bit more energy, which is why it's banned in competition.

Low-octane?
i also got prescribed prednisone for an ivy rash. my easy runs turned into long runs it was amazing
Prednisone was the thing that helped me lose weight I'd been struggling with for a year. 2 weeks of prednisone took off about 8 pounds that strangely enough, stayed off. And yes, it also gave me more energy for runs while I was taking it.
I was on a high dose of prednisone for a long time. At the beginning it seemed to improve my running, especially over long distances. I concur with the comment above about 'easy runs'/'long runs'. Recovery also seemed quicker: prednisone is, after all, an anti-inflammatory.
But after a while the accumulated lost sleep, weight gain and general irritability dragged me down.
Also, tapering off prednisone once it has done its job is not pretty and will slow you down. Although if you've been on a low dose and only for a short while this might not happen.

Busted .
You proclaim your improvement and scratch your head about a well above average HS 400 time .
Done dead thread
Prednisone is notorious for weight gain. It almost impossible not to gain 2-5lb while on it. No way it caused you to lose weight.

Short term or long term?
I was on it for 2 weeks due to a bad case of poison ivy and think I lost 3 pounds. It says one of the side effects is water retention, but I had the opposite happen. I kept losing water. I would go to the bathroom at like 10 pm before bed, wake up at like 1 am with a full bladder and pee again..same thing would happen at 4 am and then when I got up to start my day at like 6. Weird.

But the question is, as suggested by OP's title, did it make you faster?

Very small sample size (only on it for two weeks) but given how recent this was, yes my times were better when I was on it and for a few weeks after.
will i slow down once i stop using it?
