Georgia? Amankwah went to Alabama after JUCO in California.
He only ran track his senior year at Los Angeles HS (played basketball there) and in about 10 weeks got all the way down to 1:53. Ran about 1:49 at West Los Angeles JC and then on to Alabama. Got talent, good to see him still working on it.
Track definitely isn't short I never ran good there lol
Worth noting that Chris Giesting, a 45 second 400 guy ran 1:47.1
Coming in Amankwah's pb was just 1:45.91 and Windle's was just 1:45.65 ,
Short track conspiracy theorists, have fun with this one. They weren't the only ones with big pbs as Russell Dinks had a pb of 1:47.47.

Note: The post initially incorrectly stated that Amankwah went to Georgia.
Amankwah is Ghanaian. This is a new national record. The old record was 1:45.13 by Kennedy Osei, who won a bronze at the African games in 1991 and competed at a couple of world championships. The Ghanaian records are excellent at 100 (9.98 Leonard Myles-Mills, I think), 200, and 400 (45 low).
Now he needs to see if he can get the 1500m record down into the low 3:40s.

I think it's most worth noting that this meet was so much faster and deeper than Oxy. The eigth place time would have won out there
Amankwah will run at the Music City Distance Carnival on June 10, on a brand new Mondo track just laid down a few weeks ago at Vanderbilt.
I remember him in the prelims of the CA state high school championships his first year running track back in 2010. He opened with something like a 51-second 400m split and then just absolutely died to finish near last in his heat in around 2min. He is in the back of this heat in the all blue in the finish of this video from the meet.
Interesting result. Given that Berian is seemingly completely gone, is Drew Windle now the third best US guy behind Murphy and Brazier??
He beat Sowinski and Walker here...
Drew is definitely the second coming of Symmonds. Small college and great kick. He just didn't have many chances to run fast at meets like this last year. Expect big things from him the next month.
Windle can definitely go faster. He negative split it 52.6/52.3. If he can get through the rounds, that kind of close could put him on the London team this summer.
