There's a big breakthrough.

Yale's James Randon, a senior, jumps from 24th on the list to third with 3:37.93, behind Kerr 3:35.99 and Craig Engels, 3:37.75, a five second drop! And they say the drops are harder at this point.

Gregorek certainly shows that he had to be good to get second close behind Murphy recently.

Not that big of a breakthrough, IMHO. Randon ran 3:40.15 last year at the Virginia Challenge (4/22/16). He's also a First-Team All-American in the 1500m last year (8th place in 3:43) and a sub-4 miler. I would say that his breakthrough was last year.

Also, this meet is outside of the NCAA Regional qualifying window (window ended on Sunday). He already had a decent regional time, but it's nice that he can go into it with a new PR under his belt.

Ivy League had 3 guys under 3:40 in one race. I don't remember the last time that happened, or even the last time 3 Ivy League guys broke 3:40 in the same season. Also a huge run from Charlie Marquardt in 3:39, who graduated from Haverford college last year. I saw this race in person and it was a lot of fun to watch. Also Domanic and Tobin from Ole Miss went 1-2 in the seeded but not elite heat in 3:41 👌

Since we're going that deep...also props to Isaac Garcia-Cassani (3rd in non-elite heat) for #6 all time in D3 as a junior!

In Andrew's defense, based on knowing Vigs training philosophy, he's probably right where he wants to be; all of the world class athletes are targeting Pre and then USATFs. Peyton, Oxy, Portland, Swarthmore are standard chaser for for t2 athletes, but for T1 athletes they are fitness test. The same can be said for OTC, NOP as well.

Even if they did count, we aren't sure they would count for the Ivy Leaguers as they aren't technically allowed to run the meet as is it falls in the exam period so they had to get themselves to that meet and enter on their own.

Oh, and Penn's graduation was the same day as the meet, so that exam thing doesn't apply to Hatler.
