Eliud Kipchoge loves it, but why this combo? Why not just a long-sleeved top? Am I missing something?

No restriction in the shoulders. Able to take them off easily if necessary
This really isn't a tough question.
That ventilation thru the shoulders is fantastic. You can race in that in temps below freezing.
Should only be worn with shorts over tights.

Experience as competitive runner, apparently.
I don't get why he was wearing arm warmers in 10c weather.
I run in a t shirt until about -4c.

Anyone who asks this question has clearly never ran in that combo.

+1
feels amazing below 50F because you still get shoulder movement freedom while everything stays about the right temp otherwise
however it was definitely above 50F for breaking2
so I guess it was a comfort/familiarity thing or maybe just wanted the slight compression to keep blood flow in his core/legs
I love it, too wrote:

You can do that with no arm warmers as well.
The top dogs know this is superior. For serious outdoor running, in the elements, 3k and above. Glory B

Cool story. Everyone has different ranges of comfortable temperatures. I bet you're one of the same dudes that would whine because it was 75 degrees during track season and complain that it was "too hot". In the mean time Kipchoge is just deciding whether to take off his gloves or not.
