As someone who used to compete (pretty average 4.18 miler) and PBs were what inspired me to keep training hard and pushing myself to throw up after races I am in complete awe of what Kipchoge did - forget the shoes the course the pacers what he did was completely insane . I for one would love to see a machanical pacer used for world record attempts on the track . imagine an olympic 1500 final where a machine took them through the first 800 in 1.54 then they started racing(think kerin in cycling) . Maybe next time they'll open it up to say 10 elites and put massive bonuses up for grabs. I don't think it takes anything away from great races of the past or what great races we'll have in the future- in fact might go and watch the last 10k of one of my all time favorite marathons . New York - Smith verse Dixon ( which was found to be short course) . This to me was just another great example of what a great sport track and field is and how freakishly talented some athletes are . Derek Clayton did the impossible all those years ago and now the bar just keeps on rising .
