OP, I have the same type foot... wide forefoot and narrow heel. Here are some suggestions for you.
1. Make your own elastic laces out of 1/8" shock cord and fasten it with a cord lock. Elastic laces will let you snug the foot tighter without bruising the top of your foot. You can buy shock cord and cord locks in bulk on eBay or Amazon.
2. Punch out a new set of eyelets closer to the back of the shoe about 3/4 inch from the last set of eyelets. This will allow you to snug the heel into the shoe to prevent slippage. Caution. It's very easy to bruise the top of the foot where this extra set of lacing crosses over the top of your foot, so use the elastic laces. They'll snug the foot in the shoe, but stretch a little on each step to prevent bruising.
3. Try wearing super thin socks to prevent blisters. If you wear size 9 1/2 shoe or smaller, you can find super thin performance fabric no show socks in the women's sock section at Walmart or Target. Women's 8-12 size will fit my 9 1/2 foot. They're white so they're really unisex. It's really hard to find super thin men's socks, but I've found them at TJ Maxx. The good news is that these super thin socks are really cheap... 6 pair for $6 or so. You might be surprised at how the fabric of one sock is snug and another lets your foot slip. DO NOT WEAR COTTON SOCKS. Cotton gets wet and causes blisters.
4. You might need to skip the very bottom set of eyelets closest to the toe box to give your wide forefoot more room. In my opinion, if the toe box feels snug when you're walking, it's going to be too tight when you run because the foot splays out upon impact... or at least it attempts to splay out. If the toe box is too snug it will eventually cause Morton's Neuroma.
