Seriously, what are the chances? Who else is there that can claim such an accomplishment that wasn't the son or daughter of the athlete?

Yeah, I know, it's Isaiah vs. Isiah, but he was still named after Isiah.
Jesse James and Matt Dillon.

Sometimes more often that will surprise you. Children born to nobody parents, become talents.
Might need to slow your roll about IT II being better than IT I. One year does not a HoF career make.
I think it is a stretch to say this Isiah is better than Isaiah.
Very slim chances and it still hasn't happened yet with Isaiah and his namesake.
Agreed, it's a stretch, but certainly at the same level. Even show me other examples of that.
Ben johnson
Ken Griffey Jr. (named after his father)
Umm...have you ever heard of Jordan Hasay?
I'm embarrassed I thought that he was his son eg Jnr. I must admit I only watch a handful of teams play, his ain't one of them.

C'mon man, I love I.T. and I love his dad's foresight. It's amazing. But the original is a top 50 all-timer, led two teams to NBA championships over MJ, Bird, Drexler and Magic and Kareem. He holds the record for assists per game for an NBA season and he led his college team to an NCAA title in 1981. I.T. can't match that; not really that close.
His dad actually hated the Pistons and Isiah Thomas.
He lost a bet and forced to name his son after him.
The real irony is that Pistons and Celtics were huge rivals in the late 80s and now, due to a bet, their star player is named after their rival's star player nearly 30 years ago.
The new IT can't hold IT the elder's jock.
Used to be a huge NBA fan but don't watch anymore (not enough white guys out there, probably why the NHL ain't so popular in 'the community'). Not Isaiah's proudest moment.

Give I.T. the younger some time yet before coming to a conclusion. Still an open book. I'm really not all about arguing this point. Just the remoteness of the possibility of this scenario. I guess there are other, but lesser, close calls, like Joe Jackson (different sports), Reggie Jackson (different sports), or Will Smith (entirely different careers). Not sure that the naming was intentional or not in those cases either. These common names make it more likely to be unintentional.
