Doesn't that defeat the point of the license?

Just one another consequence of women's suffrage.
I live in Columbia, SC and the majority of drivers here are just horrific. People are constantly swerving in and out of lanes at high speeds. And cops don't even give a sh*t. You have to be going at least 25 over the speed limit before they'll pull you over. Our insurance premiums skyrocket every year because there are so many dipsh*ts causing completely avoidable accidents.
Driverless cars are in our immediate future. We won't have to worry about human drivers much longer.
We let lunatics own guns. Why not let incompetent people drive?
Probably for the same reason we let minorities reproduce.

Ironically these seem to be the ones that have trouble driving.
In most states it is much harder to get a license than when I turned 16. Some states require a driver's education, a supervised driving period, and course work before even taking the test.
All licensed drivers were good enough to pass the test. But it pretty much ends there. There is no follow-up testing or periodical work to be done to keep people safe drivers. It would be expensive to do but would go a long way to making everyone a better driver. Perhaps just some dedicated, hard core enforcement would do the trick.
Yup. We all got together as a society, huddled around the campfire, and decided to hand out licenses to bad drivers.
I blame Chad.
People get mad when they get rejected. If you failed people from their driver's test, they would get angry, then you would have to give it to them. Same reason doctors give so many opioids to the patients. Patients get mad if they don't get their pain meds, so doctors pass them out like candy. Same reason we give out participation trophies and medals, because people get mad if they or their kids don't get one. Same reason HB2 got repealed in North Carolina, because some people got really mad they couldn't pick their own bathroom. Same reason most people can get guns, because people get mad if they can't carry a firearm. Can't deny anybody anything in this country, otherwise you are prejudice.

Not only is this true, there's even a hidden truth in it. It's much more difficult to deny someone something than it is to force someone else to pay/suffer for it. Healthy people don't object to pay for drugs to addicts, fast runners don't object to pay for finisher medals to hobby joggers, and good drivers don't object to be killed or have their loved ones killed by bad drivers.
But the fact that smart and successful people aren't willing to take the time to fight back against the average low level leech is why leftism flourishes even in America.
