I can't believe I didn't know this but the grandfather of Christian McCaffrey, the Stanford running back, just drafted 8th overall by the Carolina Panthers, was the 1960 Olympic silver medallist at 100m, David Sime. Sime also held a bunch of world records and the world record at 100m.

The other big thing obvious from the photos is Sime was white.
Now there are almost no white world class sprinters and McCaffrey is the first white running back drafted in the first round in over 40 years so it has to be mentioned.
Is there a website that converts the 100y times from back in the day to 100m times today? Clearly Sime could run fast.
Both McCaffrey and his grandfather are very fast. Back in 60s no one thought much of a fast white sprinter or even a white running back. Now they are rarities. I wonder how much of it is related to stereotypes and how much to actual performance?
Here's an article that touches on stereotypes in NFL

And then there was this article on McCaffrey this week by sometimes track writer Matthew Futterman and I thought it was ridiculous it didn't mention McCaffrey's race because McCaffrey's says it factors into how people evaluate him.
