I have been training for a trail marathon since January as part of my goal to get back into shape. I was coming from 0 mileage and I am fairly injury prone so I slowly worked myself up to about 40 miles a week. My training was going really well until 4 weeks ago when I got sick twice and missed 2 weeks of training. Not just that but it was spread apart so it basically killed 3 weeks (sick one week recovering so taking it easy running then sick with something else the following week). My marathon is this weekend and I just started running again last week and just barely. My training runs have not been good and my time on my last training run (the third run since getting sick and my first run it at an "easy" pace) was probably 30-40 seconds a mile slower than it would have been a month ago at the same heart rate which was an "aerobic" run. I only have 1 run left and it's an easy run. I know it's too late to do anything but at this point I have no idea how bad a 4 weeks chunk of bad training will affect me at the race. Based on my last run it's like I haven't trained since January. Could that run be just a fluke? Can you really lose that much fitness in a month? I am trying get an idea of pacing because honestly the run felt easier than my heart rate indicated. Should I just go out at my planned pace before my training fell apart?
