I'm currently looking at a house in Portland that was built in 1905. I love craftsman's and the character that comes along with them. The only thing I'm reluctant about is just how old the house itself is!
No cracks in foundation, the inside is kept up nicely, the siding is functional (not brand new, but not bad at all), furnace & hot water heater are fine, windows are new, and the roof is okay (probably has 10 years left on it).
I am going back for a second look tomorrow evening before putting an offer on it and plan on double checking the following:
- Wiring
- Electrical panel
What else do I need to watch out for?
Anyone else have any insight? Great horror stories or fantastic success stories?
The house I lived in before was built in 1997, so I am going way back in time!
For what it is worth: Not a hipster (no fixie bike, record player, etc.) and not trying to be...Don't want the thread to get diverted that direction with the Portland implication.
Thanks for the help!!
