Yes there are times during the race when the pacers seem to be off to the side a little bit , not directly allowing her to draft but they are still pacing her and giving her company .But more importantly, they are directly pacing her and allowing her to draft off of them during MANY other portions of the race. did you even bother to look at most of the race before replying and defending Paula's remarks that she didn't have actual Pacers? I recommend that you do so before supporting your position that these were not actual pacers. your brother said it himself they clearly were (men whose job was to set the pace for Paula and allow her to draft off of for most of the race). They were pacers, plain and simple .

There was a separate start for women and she was allowed male pacers (I don't know if other athletes requested them). There's a video on YouTube of the start and the two pacers appear after a couple of minutes.

Previous women's WRs had been set with male pacemakers, but those were in mixed races. Male pacemakers magically become wrong and evil when in a women's only race because... um... well, to be honest, I'm not sure why. If male pacemakers are okay then they are okay and if they aren't they aren't (unsolicited opinion: women should not be allowed to use male pacemakers). I find it hard to believe that Paula would have run *slower* if she'd been in a true mixed race (although I'll bet some male athletes would have run faster) and I always find this sort of rules parsing fairly tedious. Sometimes things are illegal for good reasons and sometimes things are illegal because you have to draw a line somewhere and this place is as good as any other and sometimes things are illegal because someone just decided to make them illegal.

The only way you can have anyone legally pace another is if they are both in the competition.

That's the very reason why you can't have someone jump in to help with the last part of a race, because at that point they are DQed and not in the competition.

Who were these male races competing against if they didn't start with the men?

And in general it's wrong to have men pacing women because they are not competing against each other.

Any formal pacer is also officially entered in that race and eligible to win that race.

Technically, wejo was entered in the Chicago marathon and competing against the men.

He could coincidentally run with Paula as both races were run simultaneously and he just so happened to run the exact same pace as her. There is no way to enforce that they run a different pace, right?

But with Paula's London record, how did any men start with the women when the men had a different start time?

Who of you would want to lose a record? No one!

Did Paula have help via men in her record performance? Yes
