I hurt myself back in October 2015 after a particularly voluminous week. I stopped running fairly quickly and haven't run since. I also haven't been able to do any form of cross training. As such, my quads are practically nonexistent by this point. My hips/core/lower legs are decent enough though.
Anyway, after PT being unsuccessful, I had plica surgery on March 10th (17 months after injury). The surgeon said the surgery went well. The plica was the only issue in my knee, and everything else looked good.
I made decent enough progress the first two weeks. I was told I should be feeling good within a month and really good (IE running), within three months. After three weeks I could get around pretty well with one crutch and could even do a few half squats without pain.
I am now six weeks post-op and have made little progress since. I still need a crutch to get around. I can bend my leg a bit more now (120° or so), but totally straightening it has gotten much more difficult. General swelling has gone down, but a fairly large, firm lump has formed underneath the incision on the medial side of my knee (near the plica). I assume this is scar tissue? It is making movement difficult, as well as the exercises which well help my recovery.
As of right now, I feel significantly worse than I did before surgery. My knee is no longer clicking like it did before, but functionally I am much worse off. Has anyone had experience with this surgery? I know I'm recovering slower than most people, but am I in trouble here? Is it just a matter of waiting until the scar tissue goes away, allowing for better movement? Does anybody know how long something like this might take to clear up?
I'm only 20 btw.
