There's a Boston thread where people are saying 10 min positive split and the like are blowing up. This seems like nonsense to me unless it's all given up in the last couple miles.

First you don't say blow up at Boston anymore. You don't say died either. Just say you bonked.
It depends on how it happens and the course and how fast you are running. But in general I agree with you. At Boston it would take me 15-20 min difference to say I bonked. On a flat fast course that I was trying to even split, I would say 10 min is enough.
But if you run 3:30 and its 1:40 and 1:50 half, that doesn't seem as bad as 1:15 and 1:25 half.
