Running Groups in Houston

I'm pretty close to Houston and there's tons of running groups with fast people. Google Houston area road runners and it has a list of tons of clubs. Houston is an incredible running community with lots of great races year around. The summer heat and humidity is pretty brutal, but as long as you run before 8am and after 7pm. You should be fine.

Evenings are best for running Houston in the summer in my opinion, temps are just a little higher than the mornings but it is way less sticky.

The big problem with Houston heat is it doesnt really cool down much overnight and into morning.

You gonna be by the medical center? Rice university has a nice 3 mile gravel loop around it and that is right next to the med center. There is a fleet feet sports there and their website has some groups listed. I live north of the city so not familiar with them.

I vote for running early in the summer. And fyi summer is basically now. Hit 90 today.... my alarm is set for 4:45 tomorrow. Will be 70..... better than 90 tho

Thanks! Yeah my clinical is at MD Anderson, although I'm going to be living more in the NW part of the inner loop. I noticed Memorial Park up there looks like it has some trails which would be nice

Spent two years there. Memorial Park is nice. Just remember - it will be HOT.

Agree, running in the morning is better even with the high humidity. Compare the heat index between the am and pm and you'll understand.My alarm is set for 4:30am tomorrow, gotta do 10 mi before work (which starts at 7).Yes the HARRA web site lists a lot of running clubs with some fast folks. Unlike my old and slow ultra gang. Memorial Park is packed with runners, also lots of hike/bike paths along the rivers and bayous.

plug in the numbers for houston tomorrow, and you've got dew points of ~70 pretty much entire early morning. but at 7pm ish where youve lost much of the radiating effect of the sun, even tho the temp is higher your dew point is down around 65-66. that difference is pretty significant in my experience. ive spent significant periods of time running in nola, houston, corpus, and laredo. unless you're going short or incredibly easy, you'll feel better at a dp of 65 in the evening than at 70 in the morning. even in pretty hot temps. that was true of every halfway decent guy and gal i ran with in any of those towns. some of them preferred the morning run for other reasons, but they all agreed the evening run felt significantly better. as a general rule, and of course there are exceptions, many of the less fit folks seemed to prefer the morning run even for the feel aspect. haven't thought much about what might explain that

Believe me we know all about dew points and humidity down here. Today is a pretty typical early spring day. Between humidity or temp., pick your poison...

Time / Act. Temp / Humidity / "Feels like" Temp

7am / 70 / 96% / 72

3pm / 83 / 59% / 88

8pm / 76 / 75% / 80

To me and most of my ultra buds, it's the "feels like" temp (or heat index) that counts. In the summer it's worse with the evening temps typically hanging up in the 90's.
