So Rob Pope ran a 2:58 Boston marathon with a 1:37 first half, 1:21 second half. His 5K split from 35 to 40K was around 17:10. Those are insane negative splits. Anyone know his marathon PR? How fast could he have run if the pacing was more even?

Never heard of this guy until now. Read the OP and wanted to make fun of something without knowing the whole story....but, after looking into it a little Rob sounds like a great guy. Good for him to find some fun while benefiting a charity.
That 17:10 split is worth equal to or more than a 2:58 marathon.
Uh oh. Derek Doubler will be on his case.

That's a good point. My guess is he probably could have run 2:45 with even pacing.

Did someone say "charity"? What dirt can we find on this guy? Is he a scammer?

Probably closer to 2:40, given that 17:10 split late in the race. If he can run 17:10 after a 20+ mile warm-up, he should be able to run well under 16:30 for an all out 5K, which would be worth 2:40 or maybe faster for the marathon.
He ran 2:36 today and didn't even break a sweat!
