It's a rumor, nothing else, and it really isn't worth sharing such a rumor at this point. Sorry to disappoint. If it's a far-out, ridiculously inaccurate and inappropriate rumor, the kid involved will be hurt, as will his current teammates, coaches, school, and family. If it turns out to be true, we'll all know soon enough.

the southeast will rise! finally we can see the southeast move out of the basement for nxn teams! everyone transfer to loudon valley and build a super team!
You're joking, but it's actually happening. The school division already allows freshmen to pick their high school unless it's over populated.
LVHS won Penn Relays with a senior transfer last year.
it's ridiculous, loudoun doesn't even police this at all and it will get worse before it gets better.
if you are a kid who thinks they want to be a great runner why wouldn't you just go enroll at loudoun valley try to be the next drew hunter

This is a lot of vitriol going around for a transfer who
A. appears to have been one of Hunter's best friends before transferring
B. Ran a 2:02 split at Penn. Considering LV left a 4:20 9:23 runner off of their relay team, I don't think they won Penn because of the transfer.
guys it is okay, they were friends.
unrelated note brody hastey is sams friend too so I think he will also be relocating, and cooper teare once had a conversation with drew so he is coming back for a red shirt year. sorry great oak and american fork your time is over, hope you enjoyed the records while you had them
I don't want to say this but maybe a running cartel is forming :)
Pump the brakes for a second. Let's take a minute and remember these are high school kids running track. No one is hatching nefarious plans to move based on track and trying to have a better 4x8. It is ludicrous to suggest such a thing.
Let's stay on topic and be happy that a bright young talent is winding up at a school that has a good track record for developing talent to be ready for the next level. I for one and am excited to see what he can as he gets older especially as high school running (and american distance running for that matter) seem to be continually improving.
Spot on, Breathinandout.
Sam Affolder's FATHER'S career brings about frequent change in their family -- and that means lots of moving. Regular uprooting/relocation goes with the territory -- being in the US Army -- it's the norm. Most of us know an "army brat" -- someone who attended X number of schools in X number of years in X number of locales because the father and/or mother was/were bounced around in the military. Just remember, it's not the kids who brought on the change, but a parent or parents who's service to the US called for geographic change.
And Col (didn’t I read of this rank in one of the news stories?) Affolder's US Army career will now take him to the Pentagon for the couple of years that just happen to coincide with son Sam's last two years of high school. And his father is willing to sacrifice a fairly big chunk of his own comfort -- I'm talking about the daily commute between home and the Pentagon -- by giving his amazing son Sam an incredible GIFT -- a chance to be part of a high school running program which will be mutually beneficial to Sam and his teammates and coaches.
You hear from time to time of parents who do amazing things to give their kids opportunities that wouldn't come otherwise. I'd say Sam going to Loudoun Valley is one example. As Col. Affolder is stuck in traffic coming home from the Pentagon, no doubt his impatience with the lunacy of the roads will be eased at least a little bit by his firm satisfaction with his decision to put Sam into GREAT hands at LVHS, with GREAT teammates and GREAT coaches.
This is not a case of parents uprooting their elite athlete son simply for the sake of conveniently plopping him into an elite high school program. Again, the root cause of the relocation is a career move that brings Col. Affolder to the DC area. The parents had to choose where, in a major metropolitan area, they wanted to live. Given Sam's resume, and the chance for him to attain even loftier goals within the right running program, I think it's pretty damn impressive that LVHS has been chosen. Impressive, as in way to go, Col. and Mrs. Affolder! LVHS didn’t choose Sam Affolder; the Affolders chose LVHS.
From the article in the OP:
"Hunter’s parents—who also coach the track team—reached out to the Affolder family during the process to help give them a comfort level about their next destination."
Neither the Hunters nor the Affolders can control the wording of the press, but this particular wording, one could infer that the Hunters were stepping into a very gray area.
You've got to be kidding, Fair Facts Runner, as in Fairfax, VA runner, as in someone who might be peeved to have lost out to LVHS in the Sam Affolder sweepstakes. You must have a bee in your bonnet and are trying to stir up trouble with your subtle allegation of improprieties, based upon the wording of a media report.
Sam's parents were investigating options, as smart, caring, and thorough parents would, and the process involved direct contact with their son's prospective coaches at their likely number one choice. That doesn't mean the parents had any contact with the coach or coaches at the number two choice.
NO DOUBT the Hunters were friendly and open when Sam's parents were weighing options, as they would be with any parent of any kid who was enquiring about the LVHS program.
