Yes. If you are a girl you could walk on most DI teams or get scholarship offers at most DII, NAIA, and probably some DI's. If you are a guy, most DIII teams would take you as most are numbers driven without roster caps. If you mileage is low then coaches will be more interested in you, because you have potential to drop time with better training.
Yea im a guy. I put in about 20-30 miles a week. Thanks for the answer.
Dang. Well looks like I should've ran in XC with a sub 17
i feel like 18:24 for 5k will barely even get you on the varsity squad for high school nowadays
It will except for big AA schools
Relax guy, remember you are d3 too, stay in your lane, dont think you can just tell him what he can and cant do so he can please you. you realize d3 should be a relaxed atmosphere right? theres no scholarships, its all for fun. so cut the big shot crap out lmao

whats wrong with you if i was him id be window shopping all day! thats like half the reason anyone would run d3
sammy B ignore this pr!ck.
You can probably get a lot better than 18:xx and you almost certainly will (18:xxxc is probably like 17:45ish on a track anyway).
just have fun with it! if you want to go on a d3 team go for it.
Thanks for the advice. Yes, it may seem like I do not work hard but I actually put in 45mpw last summer before I got injured. Since then, I have been trying not to get injured again. Because of my injury, I missed a whole month of my season. So by the end of the season (my 18:24 5K) was not at my full potential. If I would have eased myself into the milage, I might be in the 17's. I apologize on my behalf that I did not clarify that I suffered an injury the summer before. In addition, I am a high school junior so my time will most likely be in the 17's by the time I graduate. Also, what college do you run for?
You could run at a D3 school with that time no problem. A soft 18:24, as you claim it was, would comfortably be a 17:xx mid-high on a track. Off of 20-30 miles a week for the majority of your high school career, a jump to 50-60mpw will comfortably drop you to a 17:xx low in XC, maybe even as an 8K split. 16:xx in track season would be capable too if you stayed healthy.
My personally, I was a 17 high guy by the end of cross but got down to a sub 4:40 and sub 9:50 by the end of senior track, which helped me a lot. Although, that was 30-45 mpw. I bumped up to 60 and was splitting 16:xx mid in 8K's through the 5K mark. Ran a 15:xx mid off of 50 mpw and some crosstraining in track season. DW about it, just start talking to coaches NOW, so that you can get a good summer training plan and figure out the standards to help make/ walk on to the team.
You will be able to run on all but the top-20 or 30 DIII teams.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
