Just watched that relay! Wonder how much time the bad baton exchange cost him. Looked relaxed at 400m pace.

Yeah, Murph is a lot quicker than people think, likely because his form, which is actually quite smooth. If he trained to run a quick 400 he's definitely got at least Borzo's wheels (45.8 out of the blocks). It will be interesting to see what he does at 1500 if actually tries to pursue that event as seriously as he's been hitting the 800 the past two seasons, NCAA championship aside.
Here are a few photos from the race.
Can't wait to see him run versus Brazier. I don't think it will be very close though.

Murphy looked very smooth when he eased into the lead on the backstretch of the bell lap passing Erik Sowinski. He was clear of the field heading into the homestretch and was definitely digging toward the end for a fast time, which he got. He's now #3 all-time in world history in the month of April.

Ugh...he's actually been focusing on the 1500.
He only ran the 800 at trials last year because he didn't get the WC standard in the 1500.
He wanted to run the 1500.
Is that 400 split confirmed somewhere? I can find the race on youtube but Akron is out of contention so I can't see Murphy's run. I can find race results that show his team running 3:07 but it doesn't break out the times by leg.

Well it's working for him, he should keep it up!
I love this dude, and I'm African American. His running form is solid, and he has speed, speed, speed. During the indoor national championships, dude looked hungry and just on another level.
I really think he can take over 800 meters once Rudisha retires from the track
Why do you say you are an AA?

What a dork. He was Pan Am 800 champ in 2015, the US / Trials Champ at 800 in 2016 and won the bronze in the 800 at Rio. One would say he's focused more on the 800. Last season he ran the 800 at Drake and at the Texas Relays. He focused more on the 800 while giving the 1500 a shot and winning the "NCAA aside" as the guy wrote.
Btw, here's Murph putting in a sub 46 relay leg in April of 2016 at the Texas Relays after winning the 800m. I agree with the other guy, Murphy looks smooth while running a fast 400.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaPQitV4E0Since there apparently wont be any 800 at Pre, perhaps he'll enter in the Bowerman mile? That would be fun to watch.

There are some blacks that hate on other runners because they are white, or who don't appreciate elite white runners. It's not racism, where they don't like white people, but more of an entitlement action, because of the stereotype of blacks being the superior athletes or runners.....same thing in basketball with the whole white men can't jump.
That's why I stated that...Clayton Murphy is an elite runner, white or black.

I really think he just looks confident in a way we haven't seen in a while, he has no fear. I really can't believe how quick he is because he just looks so relaxed
Also, to an earlier poster, I think Rio showed that Berian is improving when it comes to going through the rounds
I hope Brazier and Murphy have a real rivalry, that drives them down way under Johnny's record

I disagree on your berrian statement. He faded to 8th place, and I just feel that he does not know how to close. His path to running is a great one, working in a fast food place to conquer his dream, so I appreciate his focus and commitment. I just don't really care for his style of running, or his approach.....However, he is only 24, so he could evolve into something spectacular.

Oh no I just meant he is improving, considering he didn't even make the team in 2015! But youre right he hasn't quite gotten the hang of it yet but has loads of room for improvement
Clayton has his sights set on Centrowitz.
He will win either the 800 or 1500 easily.
Centrowitz can't outkick him.

cool.
I hope he can improve and get over his FRONT RUNNING complex....positive splitting 800 meters is not the way to go.

HELL YES!
He is coming for the crown, and he knows how to close the show. I'm not saying he is EL G, but he got that come from the pack EL G mind state.

I'm thinking it's within the realm of possibility for him to beat Coe's PRs in the 8 and the 15...and if that happens (getting ahead of myself) I think he'd be able to take the 1k record
