Which is more important for Centro's legacy; American record in the 1500 or American record in the full mile?

Mile. I often have trouble remembering the AR for the 1500, and I forget the event even exists until championship season.
1500 and it's not close. Webb's record might last for decades just because nobody bothers with the mile-because it's a dead event and there's no reason to. If Centro ever bothers to go for the mile record, it will be as an afterthought towards the end of a long and successful 1500m career.
1500 ofc
Does anyone care about the mile other than >=40 something Americans?
Whichever one is held by a real American.
His legacy will be Centro Sauce. The same legacy as Mobot Mix and Rupp Juice.

Yes, high schoolers who count 4 laps on a 400 meter track as a mile in their training logs.

This.
For all intents and purposes, to Americans, the 1600m = a mile. If you don't believe me, listen to HS coaches. The majority of them call the 1600m "The Mile".
For 95% of all runners who race (aka MS & HS kids) the mile is understandable. 4 laps. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Most people in America don't even realize that the 1500m is an event, let alone how long far it is.
I think if he could get both it would be ideal but if he got either it would be good.
He recently said he'd gun the 15, so im guessing that. If i were him i would break thw 15 then do an el g and break the mile a year later
Mile makes for a better headline.
I think the gold medal is more important than an American record.
Mile. Runners themselves are the only people who can relate to a 1500. Whether or not it's becoming obsolete in the track world, the mile distance is still something that will garner him more attention because everyone gets it.
1500 this year and mile next yr. its a world champs yr so he'll focus on running the main event. next yr in an off yr there'll be all sorts of wacky mile opps to run in and he'll go for it then.
American record in the mile is more prestigious. US General public don't know/care about 1500m. Those outside the US don't know/care about US records.
There's a reason the mile still exists, it's an awesome distance, storied history, and relatable.
Do you think Webb would be dinning out this long on the US 1500m record?
The dream mile. The golden mile. Four minutes. Bannister. Sub 3:50, Coe/Ovett, Cram, Steve Scott, super fast North Africans, Webb's 3:46. Its all fabulous history.
He has to run some Diamond League 1500s
He has the OG Gold now it is time to get the $ rewards that go with it.
The 1500m is a global event, the Mile is something only Americans seem to care about, although some Americans would never believe that...
By way of comparison, as Brits we also use imperial measures (we are in the minority for still doing so) but one of our best 1500/miler the last few years, Charlie Grice, has run 15ish 1500m race and 2 Mile races (mainly in the USA) in his last few seasons. That should give some idea of relative importance in an athletes' mind...

i think his time for these records might actually have past.hope i'm wrong, but at this point winning races is his and salazar's goal and he's not getting any younger to run under 3:29.30. farah busted out some good 1500's in his 30's though....funny that farah has a better 1500m pb than centro, but centro has a gold medalif i won a gold medal, i'd go for a time record next, but maybe it's more motivating to keep being the champ?! who knows what it's like, i'm only a hobby jogger

Uh... you do know that Mo has 4 Olympic gold medals?
Gotta say the mile. There are a number of super prestigious mile races around the world STILL. It's still run and will always be run.
Dream Mile Olso
Pre Mile
Emsley Carr Mile
Win those three in one year would be a damn good year.
