It is plausible that DR intended to cut the course and removed his timing chip before the crossing the timing matt at the start. This course of action would allow him to state that he must of had a broken / malfunctioning timing chip and would likely be believed by all as his timing chip never registered on a single timing matt, including the start. It is also plausible that the timing chip became dislodged and fell off before he crossed the start line.
There's a few questions that need to be resolved in my mind.
1. Why did Terri / Dave state that his timing chip was faulty when there is clear photographic evidence that he was not wearing the timing chip for some part, or all of the marathon? Why not just state that the chip became dislodged and fell off before he crossed the start line?
2. Where did his 4h:19m:38s time come from? If his chip was faulty / not worn then how did VLM know how long it took him to reach the finish?
Given the previous issues relating to allegations of course cutting and subsequent DQ from Bournemouth Marathon, the well documented issues around the failed LEJOG WR attempt, the lack of GPS (TomTom) data to support the run and the many unanswered questions, there is enough circumstantial evidence to set my spider sense tingling on the validity of this result.
